Chebucto Community Net Board Minutes September 17, 1998 Present: Doug Rigby, Richard Rudnicki, David Murdoch, Peter Morgan, Marni Tuttle, Sharon Parker, Michael Colborne, Sue Newhook. Revenue Canada Peter Morgan has been in touch with Revenue Canada about CCN's application for charitable status. Additional information is required. David Murdoch will contact Revenue Canada and forward the necessary documents. CCN Office Richard Rudnicki and Doug Rigby will determine CCN's reqirements for office support and draft a job description. New Board member Motion: That Jack Uthe be invited to join the Board. Moved: Michael Colborne; seconded: Sharon Parker. Passed. Fundraising Richard Rudnicki reported on the Fundraising Committee's activities. A proposal for a fundraising campaign will be presented at a future Board meeting. Technical Problems David Murdoch reported on the recent technical difficulties, which resulted from the switch to a new server. The Board expressed its appreciation to the Technical Committee for its hard work. Technical Committee Budget Motion: That the sum of $10,000 be considered the budget for the Technical Committee. Given what has been spent already, the balance is $3860. Moved: Doug Rigby; seconded: Sharon Parker. Membership Marni Tuttle reported on the continuing backlog of membership messages. Various problems in the membership process were identified. Marni, David Murdoch, and Michael Colborne will look at the process and recommend changes. North Branch CAP site Michael Colborne reported on developments at the site. In the first five weeks, over 1100 people registered to use the computers. CCN's role in this project needs to be clarifies. Michael and David Murdoch will prepare some recommendations. Board Member contact list Marni Tuttle will compile a list of home and work telephone numbers of Board members. Urban CAP Michael Colborne reported on Urban CAP developments. CCN could have significant opportunities through this Industry Canada initiative. Bernie Hart is working on a strategy for Urban CAP. The Board sub-committee will continue working on this. Board Roles Peter Morgan summarised the roles of Board members: 1. Governance 2. Creation of sustainable groups/committees 3. Doing some nuts and bolts work.
