Chebucto Community Net Board Minutes November 26, 1997 PRESENT: Peter Morgan (Chair), Peter Mortimer, Rob Currie, Joan Waldron, David Trueman, Ben Armstrong, Michael Colborne, David Murdoch, Sharon Parker, Bernie Hart The meeting was called to order at 7:20. Sharon Parker was introduced. Sharon is a professional prospect researcher with Dalhousie's Capital Campaign office. Peter Mortimer presented a variety of structural views of CCN: legal, functional, system and site. The main point was to capture the complexity of CCN. Discussion followed on how we could move forward. ACTION: Bernie Hart and Joan Waldron to initiate a process to capture roles of key players. ACTION: David Trueman to lead an effort to view CCN goals from different perspectives via selected case studies. There was a general discussion of how the current monetary surplus should best be used. The results are captured in the following motions: MOVED by Bernie Hart; seconded by Joan Waldron: that we hire a person at $1200/month for 9 months to carry out posted duties with respect to volunteer coordination and fund raising. CARRIED. MOVED by David Trueman; seconded by Rob Currie: that the $600 cost of a DalTech Continuing Education course for Blaine Murphy be covered by CCN. CARRIED. MOVED by David Trueman; seconded by Joan Waldron: that Blaine Murphy's salary be increased by $2/hour subject to financial prudence in consultation with the Treasurer. CARRIED. MOVED by Joan Waldron; seconded by Bernie Hart: that 10% of the current surplus be retained in a special fund for future upgrades and emergencies. CARRIED. Michael Colborne presented the Halifax Regional Library's Urban CAP proposal. MOVED by Peter Mortimer, seconded by Joan Waldron: that the Board approves a strong letter of support for the Urban CAP proposal. CARRIED. ACTION: Michael Colborne agreed to circulate a definitive Commercial Policy before the next meeting. MOVED by Peter Mortimer, seconded by Joan Waldron: that Sharon Parker be asked to join the board.
