Chebucto Community Net Board Meeting June 18, 1996 Present: David Trueman, Joan Macintosh, Joan Brown Hicks, John Van Gurp, Doug Rigby, Rob Currie, Ben Armstrong, Joe Baker, Bernie Hart John Van Gurp was welcomed to the board as a new member. The agenda was approved. David moved and Rob seconded that the minutes of the June 4th meeting be approved. Motion carried. David reported that since the new membership policy was instituted the end of May, over $4000 has come in as revenue. Uniform Atlantic has also donated $848. Commercial Policy: As a fundraising mechanism, CCN is interested in selling sponsorship of generic CCN pages as well as allowing Ips to sell sponsorship for their pages by sharing the revenue with CCN. Doug moved and Rob seconded that we approve in principle the draft policy on the promotion of products and services on CCN. Motion carried. Ben will post this information to CCN-IP , CCN-PIC, with cc to CCN-board for feed back. Following this discussion, the notice will go out to all members for a membership meeting, tentatively scheduled for July 9th. Proposal from Tony C. - It was agreed that the concept of providing membership, start up support to new users through a company selling used computers is a good idea. Tony will be asked to develop a team, incorporate the planned user guide as well as write up the public presentation for the board's approval. Joe will be in touch with Tony about the User Guide. Joan M will contact Tony. Internet Awards: David will send out a message to all users to " go vote". Negotiation re new Internet provider contract: David, Rob, Hugh will be on the committee. Renee Davis and David Potter will be asked to help. David will ask them. IP advanced training: Rob will put out a call to the IP committee for help to do this. The volunteers list name needs to be changed to CCN-volunteers. David will do this. Summer plans: David will speak to Blaine about summer holidays. He will be offered two weeks holidays or the 4% vacation pay. It was agreed that we will continue on with our regular meetings every two weeks throughout the summer. Brandon Boyd has been hired as a summer student David Murdock is over seeing this project. The Halifax Regional Library has a summer student looking at access to government information. Joan BH will put Catherine Collins (student) in touch with Ben and Doug. NSFCN - The idea is for NSFCN to be a federation of community nets. That way any members attending would be representatives of their individual community nets with one vote per one community net. This issue will be coming up at the next meeting on June 22. Industry Canada proposal for the development of C-Suite: David has sent the proposal to Doug Hull at Industry Canada. HRDC has their information on CCN. Bernie will write them a letter encouraging them to keep their information on CCN. Technical Committee: Alpha 4, the newest version of C-Suite has just been made available to community nets. Windsor, Truro, and Yarmouth are benefiting from this now. Toronto has asked for an install as well. Word on the Street: This is taking place on the last Sunday of September. WOTS is trying to arrange sponsorship of the costs for a booth and hook up for CCN to have a booth. Joan BH will keep the board informed. CBC tape: Bernie will try to get a copy from Provincial Media Services of the Chebucto program on First Edition Next meeting : July 2, 7 pm - tentatively at Alderney Gate Library
