Chebucto Community Net Board Meeting January 14, 1998 Present: Doug Rigby, Joyline Makani, Ben Armstrong, Sharon Parker, Peter Mortimer, Peter Morgan, David Trueman, David Murdoch, Charlie MacDonald, Bernie Hart, Michael Colborne. Health Canada Contract CCN has been awarded a $40,000 contract by Health Canada to deliver training to 44 health project sites in Atlantic Canada by the end of March 1998. MOTION: That CCN participate in the Health Canada contract under the terms that have been agreed to by David Murdoch and Health Canada with David Murdoch providing regular reports to the Board. Moved: Bernie Hart Seconded: Peter Mortimer. Passed. Doug Rigby agreed to represent the Board on the project coordination committee. Barbara Amero MOTION: That the CCN Board uphold the decision of the Policy and Information Committee in suspending Barbara Amero's account, as communicated to Ms. Amero by John van Gurp on January 4, 1998. The text of John van Gurp's letter: "I regret to inform you that the CCN is no longer willing to provide you with an internet account. The number and variety of complaints aboout your Usenet postings is overwhelming. Your accoount will remain active until 11 January to allow you to download your personal files etc. If you need more time than this please let me know. It might be possible to have your email forwarded to another address for a period beyond that." Moved: Doug Rigby. Seconded: Michael Colborne. Passed. New Part-Time Position Bernie outlined a proposal to hire a part-time coordinator for fundraising and development for nine months, with the possible extension to one year. MOTION: That the CCN Board approve spending up to $500 to advertise this position. Moved: David Trueman. Seconded: Charlie MacDonald. Passed. Bernie Hart and Sharon Parker will conduct initial interviews. Membership categories MOTION: That the following membership categories, with acconpanying disk quotas, be approved: Basic: $1-19 1/2 meg Adult: $20 1 meg Supporting: $50 5 megs + custom account name Sustaining: $100 10 megs + custom account name Moved: David Trueman. Seconded: Doug Rigby. Passed Telecommunities Canada Bernie Hart reported on the Telecommunities Canada board meeting held in Ottawa, December 13-15, 1997. CAP David Trueman reported on the recent round of CAP applications. He and Bernie Hart are on the evaluation panel for Nova Scotia applications. 54 applications were forwarded to Industry Canada and all were approved. Financial Report Doug Rigby presented the financial report. The following issues were tabled: 1. The removal of CSuite from the CCN budget. 2. The creation of a sustainig fund. 3, The use of surplus funds for special projects. MOTION: The the CCN Board accept the financial report. Moved: David Trueman. Seconded: Joyline Makani. Passed. Internet Provider David Trueman reported that ISINET has dissolved; Dalhousie University is now CCN's internet provider.
